Animal: Mountain Goat Nanny & Kid
Location: Colorado, United States of America
Feel the tugging of your heartstrings as you contemplate the love this Nanny Mountain Goat has for her kid. As the weather warms, and summer arrives, Mountain Goats seek shelter in areas with the highest elevation to protect their newly born kids from potential predators like Mountain Lions. To face these severe mountainous conditions, where one wrong step leads to certain death, Mountain Goats are equipped with cloven hooks, hard outer edge, and flexible inner pads giving them the the ability to be one of the best rock climbing mammals in North America.
As I glassed the mountain looking for goats with kids I saw two white dots scaling the side of a steep rock ledge. I determined where I believe they would to and hit the rocks. As the air kept getting thinner and thinner as I climbed to around fourteen thousand feet I felt altitude sickness start to kick in. As I pushed through scaling the rocks I finally reached where I estimated the goats to be.
As I sat on a large boulder just below the ridge the Nanny and her Kid walked out stopping to take in the jaw dropping view overlooking Colorado's vibrant forest. As my heart was throbbing from the thinness of the air, the kid took shelter under its mom from the fifty mile per hour sustained winds. As both posed on a rock the wind perfectly blew the Nanny's beard along the top of the kids head. As the goats posed, perfectly scattered clouds engulfed us from below showing the spirit of Colorado. This moment shows why Mother Nature is truly the greatest artist of us all.
