Animal: Alaskan Moose
Location: Alaska, United States of America
View the essence of Alaska in one photograph as an enormous Alaskan bull Moose emerges from the Mountain Hemlock. Fall is a chaotic time period in Alaska as the forests and valleys are battlegrounds for ruthless fights between bulls to determine who gets to create the next generation. Common sounds of racks slamming into vegetation to show other bulls how big their racks are is often precursors to loud banging of racks being entangled.
In the heart of a vibrant Alaskan forest is my favorite location to photograph Moose. Every day from the start of the rut to the end I was photographing countless light sparring sessions to the brawls. With all this action I desired peace as I looked to photograph a large bull showing the environment they live in. As I climbed a dense forest I saw the flash of antlers in my binoculars. Knowing the general direction the Moose was going I climbed ahead positioning myself under a large where an opening was.
As I sat patiently waiting the sounds of antlers hitting the Hemlocks kept getting louder and louder as the Moose tried to find a way into the opening. As the Bull emerged from the dense forest and stood on the lush red undertones I photographed what I was after: peace during an unruly time. This moment shows why Mother Nature is truly the greatest artist of us all.
Each photo captured has a deep and intricate backstory, articulated above, that is printed alongside your print to give you the full behind the scenes look for each fine art photograph you purchase.
